EYES 05-16-06 GAS LEAK SOUTHERN WISE
COUNTY
Wise County Sheriff's Office Communications received a call
from a citizen in South Wise County at approximately 7:07p.m., which had located
a possible gas leak. The reported
gas leak was located off of PR 3462 in the Springtown area, and was reported to
be leaking from an above ground tank. Wise County Fire Marshal Paul Cunningham, as well as the
Parker County Fire Marshal were dispatched to the scene, as well as fire
departments from Cottondale and Springtown.
Approximately 5 homes have been evacuated along the Wise County and
Parker County line. American Red
Cross in Parker County was notified and is responding to the scene.
Investigators at the scene have identified the owner / operator of the
well site and are awaiting their arrival. A
Haz-mat team from the Azle area is on scene and working with the volunteer fire
departments as well as Fire Marshal Offices of Parker and Wise County.
The Wise County Emergency Operations Center was opened at the Sheriff's
Office to assist with the need of additional evacuations as the need presents
itself. Wise County Judge Dick
Chase and Fire Marshal Paul Cunningham will be sending additional information as
it comes available.
If need arises, an additional press release will be sent regarding any
public safety information throughout the night.
